Poetry: Remembering love

The Paths
of Yesterday
..................

Darkness washes
over my soul
as I take in the
greyness of the day

Gazing through the window
at nothing in particular
lost deep in thoughts
that will not go away

Raindrops trickle
to the bottom of
the glass

a metaphor indeed
for the tears in
my eyes

that trickle down my cheek -
yes, nothing ever lasts
but the acute sense of sorrow
as I walk those paths

we used to walk
in a time now gone
Where once there
was sunshine...
now there is none...

Now darkness grips
where I fear to tread
The future unknown
within my head

A bleak landscape
of a time to come
when my light will wither
like the setting of the sun

Alone I stand, a broken soul
The cold wind is cutting
and I feel old

The cold wind is biting
and my heart is grey
Making my way
down the paths
of yesterday...
