Is artistic skill natural or learned?

Any person who has artistic skill knows that the answer to this question is quite simply artistic skill is both a natural and learned talent.  Regardless of what a person is talented at they need to be passionate about their skill otherwise they will not take the time required to hone it.

When somebody is young they will find that there is something they are good at.  For some it may be math, for others reading and writing, sport or art.  This is when artists usually realize that they love to create and go about doing what they love.

A young sportsman may be athletically gifted and take it to the nest level by practicing the sport that he or she loves to do.  This is the same with artists.  A writer may love to write when they first start but as they go they will learn tips and tricks to perfect their craft. As will painters, sketchers and those practicing the many arts that are out there today.

Learning an art is what takes a natural talent from something that is good to something that is brilliant.

However budding artists should not feel as though they do not have the natural talent to succeed in an art form they are passionate about.   Art like everything else in life can be learned.  All one needs is the passion and drive to see it through.

The great artists of history spent countless hours learning and observing before creating their masterpieces.  If one is determined to be successful in one area it is important to pursue their dream.  This can be done by taking classes.

There are even classes that can be taken online if there is not a class nearby.  However the key to going from raw talent to something special is learning and it is important to realize that.  One will not become an overnight success in their chosen field.

Learning and growing is a part of life.  Athletes practice by training and artists need to take the time out to practice in order to keep improving.  If this is not done the artist will keep producing the same quality of work, never getting any better.  Or even worse yet they will take a look at their work and give up because it does not look like what they want it to.
