Why meditation is effective for self-healing ~ Meditation is one of the most effective tools for our healing today. Meditation teaches us how to slow down our minds, slow down our breathing and become more present in the moment and in our physical bodies.
As we are living in new and interesting times and times of great change, many of us are finding that as we experience life change, our emotional triggers become pushed, until we feel as though we are at the edge of a cliff, with nowhere to go but downward, into fear of the unknown. As we begin to experience life changes, at first, these changes may appear to be negative, challenging and filled with great obstacles, and no way around these obstacles, however, when we finally feel bad enough and the old means of getting through our challenges are no longer appealing or better yet helpful, it is then that we begin to look for something new and something different, to settle our overwhelming emotions, to at least get a handle on them, before we proceed to forward motion.
My life changes and the path that I found myself on came to me at 32, when my first marriage ended. Now although my first marriage ended in a loving and understanding manner, emotional devastation still made its presence known to me. And although I had been in for traditional counseling 7 years earlier and I was already reading for others and teaching psychic and intuitive development, along with the Tarot, this did not stop the flood gates of pain from coming.
But, I was ahead of the game, for I had already learned that when pain is present, there were ways to get through it from understanding and awareness, to remain in an aware state of mind and have a good handle on my emotions. Although, when I was taking my own psychic development classes with another teacher and we did deep breathing 10 minutes before group started and 10 minutes before group ended, I had not had the serious benefits of meditation for healing.
However, one day, as my emotions amped quite a bit high, with no relief in sight, I walked into my local metaphysical bookstore, where I had been freelancing my readings and classes and was friends with the owner. Needless to say, she took one look at me and my energy and offered up new information about a group that was doing a free lecture on this particular night. She had shared with me, that because of my style of reading and because of the type lecture taking place,
