Kanye West Power single leaked from new album

by Bruce Tyson

Kanye West fans received a special treat after his new single; “Power” was leaked on the internet, giving them a rare glimpse into a yet unreleased album. Long in the works, Kanye West’s fifth album, “Good Ass Job” is eagerly anticipated, making the release of the “Power” track the biggest sensation on the internet headed into the Memorial Day weekend. The title “Power” is drawn by a theme in a line of the chorus, "I guess every superhero needs his theme music - No one man should have all that power.” Several instances of “Power” were posted to YouTube and received a tsunami of clicks before West’s label, Universal Music Group had the song removed from the site for intellectual property rights violations. “Power” can still be heard on Web sites across the internet and is reportedly also available for download. Legitimate copies of the song are scheduled for release on iTunes on June 8, the same day West is scheduled to perform the piece live during a performance set to benefit his charity foundation.

In “Power,” West goes off on Saturday Night Live (bringing the painful memories of the interrupted Taylor Swift speech the mocking by Taylor Lautner to mind), an apparent reflection of his disdain for maltreatment by the media. A shocking scenario ginned up by the track has him getting into a car and driving after drinking. Spicing up the track even more, a portion of "21st Century Schizoid Man” by King Crimson plays before the track closes out with orchestra music and a 911 call. The call presumably results from a wreck caused by West’s impaired driving. Judging from the fan response to “Power,” very few are concerned about the potentially harmful messages that are included in the song.

Drake and Big Sean are said to be working with West on the new album in Hawaii where the recording was produced last month. The leaked single proves to skeptics that Kanye West remains one of the most powerful artists in twenty first century hip hop in spite of the dearth of new material released by the star. West’s previous album is titled “808s & Heartbreak” and was released in 2008.
