Excerpt from What’s the Point?
No one trusts me anymore, not ever since they all found out I was shooting up. Who are they to criticize me, when they do the same drug but just not the way I do? Jerks. Screw them." She mumbled out loud to herself as she turned down the street where she hung out. Three houses had made it her most recent stomping ground.. Out loud to herself she asks, "Let's see should I stop at John's? No. Front doors closed, garage is down, means nothing is going on there. Last thing I want to do is put up with that perv on the natch. As she approached Jasper's she noticed the garage was up, which meant he was too. A little further down at the last house she hung out she noticed there was life, but she didn't recognize some of the people and didn't want to meet anyone new. So she pulled in front of Jasper's and shut the car off. Hopefully she would be able to get what she really wanted from Jasper who was a diabetic who took insulin shots twice a day. A nice new rig. The last one clogged up and completely screwed up her left arm. She pulled her sleeve down a little further towards the top of her wrist and cursed the hot California weather, as she got out of her car.
The front door was open but no one was in the living room, or in the garage which was wide opened. She walked in and Lurk wagged his stubby tail and snorted at her as he whined and stared wide eyed at her. Poor Lurk. He was once a good bird dog, but now he was old, arthritic, and gray, and as loved as his owner was by those who knew them both. "Hey Lurky! Where's your daddy?" She knelt down next to the dog and started scratching behind his ears. He let out a whimper. "Oh that's okay, bud. I'll come back and help you get those stupid old fleas away from your ears as soon as I find your dad." With that she stood up and loudly called out, "Hey Jasper are you home?" No one answered. She headed towards the back of the house and confirmed it was empty. Huh. What the Hell? I guess he must have gone someplace close eh Lurkish? Lurk opened his mouth with a smack and whimpered again, wanting his flea bitten ears scratched some more. She stopped in her tracks looking at the dog a minute and thought, wait a minute. Now's your chance to get what you came
