A LITTLE VINEGAR: A HEALTHIER YOU

There is a very, very long list when it comes to the benefits derived from Apple Cider Vinegar.  Did you know that three or four teaspoons of vinegar a day can help stabilize your blood sugar, your blood pressure and help you to lose weight?  It’s true.  It really works.  This is not just another fad idea or gimmick to sell vinegar.  It also helps when you have heat or sun stroke and helps alleviate the symptoms of the common cold among other things.

My mother was a diabetic for most of her life, from about the age of six or eight and she insisted that vinegar, organic undistilled apple cider vinegar helped control her blood sugar levels.  Research has now proven she was right.  Mom used to drink three or four teaspoons of this vinegar in a cup of water almost every day.  It really is a refreshing and very healthy drink.  I prefer mine in tea and I sometimes add about a half teaspoon of honey if I want something not quite so tart.

I remember as a young person and especially as a teenager, my mother encouraged me to put vinegar on my salads, pot herbs like spinach and cabbage, sprinkle it over cooked beets and to add it to cool water as a beverage especially after I had spent hours outside in the hot sun.  Mom used vinegar in cooking a variety of wonderful dishes.  Mom said it helped her diabetes and it was good for us too, that it might even prevent us from getting diabetes.  At the time I just rolled my eyes and said. “Sure, Mom,” and ate my food with vinegar.  I learned to like it and I’m glad I did.

Vinegar of any kind is very sour and tart and I wouldn’t recommend drinking it straight from the bottle, though some people like that much tart, however, it will give your taste buds a bit of a twang and pucker your mouth in a hurry.  It is wonderful on salads, pot herbs, various vegetables, as a meat tenderizer, a great base for making marinate’ for chicken, beef, lamb, fish, and wild game and in tea, hot or iced, it makes a very refreshing beverage.  I sometimes switch to lemon juice for a change of flavor and include a little of the zest but the apple cider vinegar is best.  I am enjoying a cup of pomegranate tea with three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and a half teaspoon of honey right now.  It is on the stand beside my desk so I can sip on it while I type this.  And just as a side note, those
