Tension, Migraine, and simply every day headaches can be treated and put to ease using herbal remedies. Some of the best herbs to use for treating all kinds of headaches are feverfew, catnip, chamomile, rosemary, peppermint, and white willow bark. I will explain to you what each herb is, how it can be taken, and what type of headache it can help treat.
The first herb I will explain to you is feverfew. I take feverfew every day to help prevent and treat my constant migraine headaches. Feverfew is a flower that is related to the sunflower family and gross like a small daisy with white petals and a yellow center. The parts of the feverfew flower that are used to help treat migraine headaches are the leaves.
The leaves are crushed and used to make herbal teas or placed in capsules to make an easy to swallow pill when the herb is needed for treating headaches.
The reason feverfew can help treat migraine headaches is because it contains powerful compounds in it called, “Parthenolides,” which helps inhibit compounds that cause inflammation inside the head and body. Reducing the inflammation in the head and body is key to relieving a painful migraine.
The best way I find to take feverfew is in standardized capsule form because it is easier to take, but the most effective way to take it is using tincture because it gets the herb into the body faster and helps relieve the headache faster. The only problem I have with taking it in the tincture form is it can leave painful mouth sores in my mouth.
The next herb to use to treat mild migraine headaches and tension headaches is catnip. Catnip is a small purple or white flower that has mint shape lives on it. It is also know as catmint because it smells a little bit like the mint herb.
The parts of this herb that is used to help treat mild migraines and tension headaches are the flower and the leaves. The flower and the leaves are dried and used to make an herbal tea to sip on.
The reason it is used in this form is because it helps release more of a substance called, “Nepetalactone,” which is a natural sedative that helps relax the muscles in the body and reduce spasms. By relaxing the muscles in the body and reducing spasms it helps relieve the headaches.
However, there are side effects from taking this herb to relieve your mild migraine or tension headaches such as drowsiness. I know this first hand. It does work with relieving a headache but it makes you super sleepy.
Now the third herb I am sure
