Poetry: Losing love

"Lonely Ends"

I see things from time-to-time that take me back…
back to a place that holds only ghosts.
I sit here comfortably uncomfortable and wait…
wait for memories to play past lowered lashes.

Blips of Once Upon a Times…
that found no Happily Ever Afters.

Undeserving.
A label I’ve sewn secretly to the outside of my heart.
My life one devoted to awkward beginnings,
semi-middles and lonely ends.

Miss you.
Two words that mimic…
mimic madly the beat of my heart.
Miss you.
Two words returned…
returned unopened in envelopes sent.
Miss you.
Two words that meant nothing…
nothing to a target lying prone in a grave.

Sharp eyes, steady hands.
Two things I wished I’d had…
so as not to have lost them both.
