Hollywood and politics: What makes movie stars political experts?

The political leanings of many celebrities are clearly indicative of a lifestyle no one save a mind-bogglingly wealthy celebrity could ever understand. Their views seem foreign and uninformed because they live in a world unto themselves. This author has often pondered the implications of living in a home the size of most neighborhoods, having an army of sycophants at your disposal, doing everything for you before you even ask. Imagine living in a home where you don't go grocery shopping. You just go to the fridge and presto! everything you want is already there. Laundry is done and pressed, hanging in your closet when you wake up. Children are a luxury item, played with in small, pleasant doses. The nitty-gritty parental labor is performed by nannies. It's no wonder certain stars adopt children, then show them off like fashion accessories. The only reality to such an individual is the endless gratification of all ones desires without even asking for it. The result is a complete and total disconnect with the rest of the planet. It's easy to see how a person who is constantly surrounded by people telling them how brilliant and talented they are, hanging on there every word ,can begin to believe in their own infallible judgment. It's easy to contribute a million dollars to a charity when you made 30 million in a year alone. It's also easy to forget that you live in an elitist microcosm, and got there because you trily are better than the average joe.

However, the average joe lives in what this author calls "reality." We wring our hands over bills, we make sacrifices every day. The choices we make are more "should I take out a second mortgage so my child can get an education?" and less "should I take a year off and buy a house in France?" The long and short is, most of regular America is more than a little insulted by lectures on social responsibility, given by men and women who's wardrobe costs exceed our own annual salary. They can not, and will not remember how normality and all of it's obstacles can make an issue cloudy at best.
Entertainers should entertain, they should thank their lucky stars every day for their wealth and adoration. They should leave social and political commentary to common-sense individuals who actually have a stake in current affairs. Politics and activism can be a fine hobby, if you agree to csll it just that. But if you live in a proverbial ivory tower, don't take the arrogant monarch's view and try to educate the unwashed masses.
