Created on: May 26, 2010

The Shining is a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. It's a horror movie from 1980 and it is based on the bestseller book, The Shining (Written by Stephen King). The lead role is played by Jack Nicholson.

-Story-

Former alcoholic and writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) has been cured from his alcohol addiction. He got a temporary job as a housekeeper in the prestigious Overlook Hotel in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado. The hotel stays closed during the winter, because of the extreme weather conditions. Jack received an order to keep an eye on the heating installation and if needed, to do some reparations too. Manager Stuart Ullman (Barry Nelson) has already warned him about the stories of earlier housekeepers. One of these was Delbert Grady who went totally crazy during the winter in 1970 and killed his own 2 daughters with an axe.

Jack, his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their son Danny will be the only residents of the big complex. The family gets a guided tour before they move into their rooms in the hotel on the last day before it is closed. While having this guided tour, Danny (who was examined by a doctor just a while ago because he had a problem with paranormal senses and an imaginary friend called "Tony") gets the shock of his life when he gets a paranormal connection with the Afro-American cook of the hotel, Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers). Dick has the same problem as Danny; he is suffering from paranormal senses too. In a private conversation, Danny is telling Hallorann that he knows that something happened at room 237. Hallorann strongly recommends Danny to keep away from this room. The telepathic contact between these two will have a key role at the end of the movie.

The first weeks in the hotel are quiet for the family. In the middle of the days, Jack wants to work on his book, for which he has enough time now. Danny however, discovers that there are spirits wandering in the hotel. He is seeing twin sisters every time. At a given moment he sees them lying chopped in pieces in the pace at room 237; these are the girls who have been killed during the winter of 1970 on the same spot by their father.

Some weeks later, the telephone connection is cut, because of a heavy snowstorm. Because of this, the hotel has been cut off from the outside world. From that moment, the happenings are following each other at high pace. At a sudden moment, Jack Torrance is sitting the whole day behind his typing machine and is reacting
