Edmonds.com –- the pro-consumer automotive analysis web site recommends the following in the event of an automobile accident:
* Keep an emergency kit in the car. Pen & paper, important contact and health information, disposable camera, and a cell phone should be easily available.
* If there are no serious injuries move the involved vehicles out of the way of traffic. State laws and/or vehicle damage may prohibit this.
* If the cars cannot be moved set out cones/flares/or triangles, turn on hazard lights, make sure everyone is buckled up and remain inside car until help arrives.
* Exchange pertinent information with the other driver: name, address, phone number, insurance details. Be polite but do not acknowledge/accept blame or responsibility for the accident.
* Write out a complete description of accident scene and automobiles involved.
* Photograph and document accident including any witness names and numbers if possible.
* File an accident report.
* Know what your policy covers
* Contact lawyer.
