1) Socks... and if possible a pack of 3 different sizes!
2) Onesies... either newborn size or 6 months (depends on if the person has had other children and if they were small or big or if the woman's stomach is big or small)
3) Wipes... they will end up using a lot when the baby is first born
4) Diapers... Get a pack of size ones... you can't go wrong with those.. I only use Pampers Swaddlers on my child.. and they don't leak and are very absorbent
5) Pacifiers... a two pack is very cheap but since there are so many different kinds you could pick a few different types
6) Bottles... if the parents don't have a baby registry you might want to see with the mother about this
7) Nipples for the bottles... I didn't know this until I had a child but there are different flows to the nipple that is supposed to change as the child gets older... so you could get one of each of these flows
8) Hats... Newborn or stylish for the child as they get older
9) Lotion and Baby wash... sometimes there are bath sets that are cheap
10) Baby safe Q-tips
11) A humidifier for the Nursery... I had to go out and buy one because when a baby gets sick they don't sleep and the humidifier cleared her up so she was able to breath easier
12) Blankets
13) The Nano Bag... a sack for the car seat that is almost like a sleeping bag for cold winter days... it keeps the baby safe from the elements like wind, rain, and snow
14) A thermometer set... comes with rectal, ear, and sometimes pacifier thermometers
15) A grooming set... usually comes with brush, comb, nail clippers, and an aspirator
16) A medicine dispensing pacifier
17) Medicine set... comes with infant Tylenol, or infant Motrin, gas relief drops, teething medicine, maybe a thermometer and other first aid items
18) First aid kit (personalized if possible)
19) Saline nose drops for infants and an aspirator- life saver during cold and flu season
20) Bibs
21) Shoes in a few different sizes
22) If it's a baby girl... hair clips
23) An outfit... shirt or onesie, pants or skirt, and a sweater
24) Teether's or teething toys
25) Bath toys
25) Towels
26) Washcloths
27) Spoons and bowls
28) Pacifier catchers... hold on to the pacifier so it doesn't hit the ground or get lost when the baby drops it
29) Gift certificate to a place to get baby stuff or one for the parents like a restaurant, movie theater
or a thoughtful free gift
30) a certificate for one night of your babysitting services :-D my favorite one
