Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - Film Only Review

Released back in 1990 this 90 minute long, PG rated film is still just as clever and funny as it was 20 years ago.

Starring a scarily youthful Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, this film is based around 2 high school students named Bill and Ted who are more interested in starting their band "Wyld Stallyns" than studying, and as a result, they are about to flunk out of school if they can't pass their history class.

Rufus, a man from the future (which is heavily influenced by the 2 "excellent ones"), travels back in time to help Bill and Ted with their history presentation by giving them a time travelling phone booth, which means they can witness history's greatest times first hand and hopefully pass their class.

This film is, from start to finish, just plain silly and fun. It has no basis in reality and because of this you can just completely forget the fact that time travel isn't possible (well, at least not yet!) and that the likelihood of persuading Genghis Khan to come to the future is slim to none, and enjoy it for the 90 minute romp it is.

It is actually very well written. Most would argue that writing a script to portray 2 uneducated boys isn't a challenge, but Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is funny and bright. The script pokes fun at the era and stereotypes of the 80's and the language that was used, while still being completely easy to follow and with one-liners that will make you laugh.

Teacher: "Bill, what you're telling me, essentially, is that Napoleon was a short dead dude"

The film has lots of supporting cast including parents, teacher and of course the historical figures. I love that in the film, each historical figure is portrayed with a good sense of humour and having fun poked at them. Napoleon is my favourite character portrayed. It's amusing to see the famous French Emperor throwing child like temper tantrums and enjoying the modern world's water park!

Overall I think this film a great, easy to watch giggle. It's light hearted and silly but actually very watchable and not too ridiculous. The script and the characters keep it going at a very amusing pace and every time I watch it, I enjoy it and smile.

There is nothing too scary at all for the younger viewer which gives it its PG rating, but they may find some of the silly jokes and play on words go over their heads.

On a slight side note Keanu Reeves' hair is quite impressive and I'm quite jealous he used to have such lovely locks!

Thanks for reading :)
