Atlanta Braves fans should be swinging on a star doing the Tomahawk Chop. No really. Look at what your team has accomplished since 1991. Fourteen, count them, fourteen consecutive National League East Division crowns. It probably would have been 15 had the 1994 season not been aborted.
No one can take away those 14 division titles and the '95 World Series title. I know you're going through a transition since the '06 season, but Braves fans have a lot to look forward to.
Chipper Jones, a first bout Hall of Famer, is nearing the end of his career. But 20-year-old Jason Heyward is ready to pick up the baton. Are you kidding me?
The young man was born for the game. He hits with power and authority, has a nice arm and runs the bases well. You are very fortunate. He's going to be a 30 home run, 120 rbi, 325 average star before long.
Yes, you lost Andruw Jones, but you have Troy Glaus, Nate McClouth and Brian McCann. Yunel Escobar is no slouch. You have to understand that since you last won the division in '05, the rest of the teams in the east are getting better. The Phillies have risen to the top, but they're never going to win 14 division titles in a row. Don't worry, your record is safe.
Now my favorite team, the Mets, who were manhandled by the Braves in the past, are trying to fight their way back from insignificance. I know they choked in '07 and '08, and were completely obliterated by injuries in '09. But you can't really count them out this year. Hey, we swept you in a three game series recently.
The Marlins and Nationals have to be reckoned with, Braves fans. Anyway, you'll have a shot for the wild card this year, so don't give up. I know you used to have Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz, but times change and you have to turn the page. Now you have Derek Lowe, Tim Hudson, Jair Jurjjens and Tommy Hanson.
You've always had an uncanny ability to bring up the best pitchers. That's not going to change. And you have Bobby Cox, a phenomenal manager, even though he's a pain in the ass to me. All Braves fans should attend Cox's retirement party this year for what he's brought to Atlanta.
Seriously, Braves fans, you have nothing to worry about. You'll be back. Hopefully, for my sake, not too soon.
