Although there is certainly no set standing for "getting" a boyfriend, there are several things that would-be daters can do to increase the possibility of meeting a potential someone special.
1. Go out You're certainly not going to meet anyone surfing the five hundred channels you have on direct TV not to mention the last three weeks of primetime shows on your Tivo. It can be tempting, especially after a long day, to get home, kick off your heels, and veg out in front of the TV or the internet, but the truth is, the only way to meet people is by going out and meeting them. Don't try to make the "I can meet someone on Myspace" argument, because the truth of the matter is that you're not going to get a sense or feel for anyone's true personality via IM.
2. Get involved - There are so many ways to get actively involved in your community regardless of your personal social inclination. Meeting people is often as easy as going out to dinner with some girlfriends, joining an organization, volunteering, or simply heading to the gym for a good work out. Doing things that make you happy give you the opportunity to relax, enjoy yourself, and potentially meet someone who shares some of your interests. If you don't like dancing, don't expect to meet Mr. Right at a club because you think that's where the "scene" is.
3. Be yourself - The most important thing is for you to be yourself. If you are having a good time in your life, people will take note, and be attracted to your naturally happy, confident personality. If you are really ready to be in a relationship, you will have a good, secure sense of self. If at this point in time you are unable to satisfy yourself, love yourself, and make yourself happy, then ask yourself if you're capable of doing these things for someone else. If you need more time to focus on yourself, take that time, it will benefit you in the long run.
Remember, the best relationships are natural and unforced. There are no steps to acquire and secure a man, and I am certainly not condoning the belief that men are meant to be "possessed" but if you feel that you're ready to start dating someone monogamously, or considering a potentially more serious relationship, then hopefully these suggestions will help you out.
