Memorial Day is a day to remember our American soldiers that have given their lives, so that we may enjoy the freedom living in American affords us. And Memorial Day is the first official weekend of summer. That means it is time to honor our war heroes and enjoy our freedom. Therefore we all need to let down our hair, and enjoy life to the fullest, on Memorial Day weekend. It's a celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That means it is time to party and eat some traditional Memorial Day foods.
Memorial Day foods are the foods we Americans adore! They are the finest foods of summer, that make us feel that everything is the best it can ever be.
What are the traditional foods of Memorial Day?
Here they are in all their red, white, and blue glory:
Hot dogs with tasty, big hot dog buns, slopped with every condiment you can slather onto a heaping helping of hot god heaven are the absolute best food of Memorial Day. You must heap your hot dog with ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, pickles, and some people prefer a tasty chili, or hot cheese on their hot dog also.
More traditional foods of Memorial Day, the beginning of summer; will fill your stomach making you feel proud to be an American. Good old fashioned piping hot apple pie is a favorite amongst Memorial Day revelers. Apple pie made from your home kitchen is preferred over the store bought kind that will leave your stomach thinking there weren't enough apples on the trees to bake the pies.
Steaming hot corn on the cob coated in butter and salted lightly to avoid sodium overload, eaten right off the cob is one of the most traditional Memorial Day foods ever. You might think you are smack-dab in the middle of country heaven as you crunch into the yellow goodness that corn on the cob offers.
A slice of sweet, tasty, watermelon will most definitely have you wishing for more days off from work, and that summer would last forever. Watermelon is one of the most traditional foods Memorial Day can offer! Watermelon can be eaten alone, as a short slice, or as desert on a hot, beautiful summer Memorial Day weekend.
Ice cold beer, mixed drinks, and Grandma's potato and macaroni salad are also staples of great American Memorial Day weekends. Traditional Memorial Day foods only make the weekend festivities feel that much better, but it is also enjoying an American favorite; a baseball game, and having as much fun as you can pack into one, beautiful, long weekend.
