Gossip Girl is a televised series that has been airing on the CW for three seasons since 2007. A typical season has around 20 episodes or more and is aired throughout the fall and winter seasons. The fourth season of the show will debut on the CW in the fall 2010 season. Gossip Girl has a gorgeous cast comprising of Blake Lyvely, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick. The entire series is filmed on location in New York City.
Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of teens from Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This part of Manhattan is usually resided by only the wealthy and elite. Gossip Girl tells the classical tale of grass is not always greener on the other side. The storyline follows the life of Serena Van der Woodsen, a promiscuous model type socialite who never fails to bring drama to the scene. Serena tries to go through life on the Upper East Side but soon realises that things are never simple. Serena relies on her friends as life is further complicated by an unknown infamous girl named Gossip Girl who blogs about the everyday lives of Manhattan’s elite.
Gossip Girl is a drama series aimed primarily at teenage girls but the show can be enjoyed by adults as well. The series has an amazing wardrobe design and features many trends and designer clothing from the New York fashion scene. Most people enjoy seeing how the lives of the elites are often not as perfect as they make it seem. The show does revolve around the lives of teenager and focuses primarily on social stigmas and the pressure of defining oneself in life. As the series progresses the teens finally move from high school to college where then face a new series of challenge and rites of passage. Gossip Firl shows you that whatever your social class is, life is never easy.
If you like gossip, scandals and major drama then Gossip Girl is a show for you. I give the show a 7.5 out of 10. This is a great show, the cast is stunningly gorgeous and refreshing, the wardrobe makes you want to be part of Manhattan’s elite and gossip takes on a new style of its own. The series is based on the series of books entitled Gossip Girl by Cecily Von Ziegesar. The series does differ prominently from the books in some areas in the plot and even some characters have been significantly modified.
Gossip Girl is a great show that is definitely worth a look and in the end will leave you gossiping about the lifestyles of the rich and the famous.
