Horses

Citation: 'The best horse ever'

Horse lovers view their beloved animals in many ways, but here are a few words to describe how I see them. In my opinion, they are graceful, elegant, teachers, partners and companions. Each and every horse is an individual, different and unique. They come in all different heights, shapes, sizes, colors, breeds, and personalities. Horses have their own styles of movement, but always graceful. All horses have a distinctive air of elegance about them no matter what their training or breeding is. Horses are magnificent teachers in loyalty, trust, body language, and respect. Horse and rider are always equal partners, even though the rider has more control. If treated right, these animals can become one of the greatest companions. Horses are wonderful at interpreting how a person feels so it's easy to know where you stand with any horse.

My passion for these animals has always been evident (I am guilty of being horse crazy), but it wasn't until six years ago when I finally received my own horse and was able to mature in my gift of horsemanship and communication with horses. Now I own two magnificent creatures and have learned many things.
My first horse is named Royall Velvet. His is part Quarter horse and stands short and proud at thirteen hands. He has the cutest face with at white star and snip for markings. He is a true bay from his black tipped ears all the way down to his black stocking feet. Velvet has the most genuine and steady personality with quite a sense of humor. He is the truest friend that one can have and has taught me many things about loyalty and loving blindly. His body language tells me how he is feeling and he can tell about my mood based on my energy. Velvet always knows when to be there and give me a hug when I've had a bad day or need a mane to cry in. Another gift he has offered is challenging me as a rider and as a person. He and I are both getting along in years, but our relationship always continues to grow.
Oreo, my second horse, is an American Paint horse. Just like the name implies he has a black head and rump with white in the middle. He is a registered Tobiano paint and stands tall and lanky at fifteen hands. Oreo is only three years old and therefore his personality is extremely playful and innocent. In the few months I've had him he has already begun to challenge my skills in horsemanship. When he first came to my backyard he would not let anyone touch him, but as time has gone by he has come to respect and trust me. He even knickers and comes running up to me to be loved on. I've been working with him and teaching him how we work as a team and in turn has been teaching me. He has taught me the art of trusting completely, how to communicate quietly, and how to love in a child like manner. Oreo's total trust in and dependence on me has humbled me in ways I could never describe.
Horses are one of the most important parts of my life and my soul. I once believed that I would be a great horse trainer and teacher of horsemanship, but I quickly learned that I was more of a student than a teacher. In a horse's eye you will see many great things and if you see yourself then you have achieved humble greatness, if not, then there is still work to be done and the horse will be your greatest teacher.
