Things to do in Oklahoma City, OK during the summer

Oklahoma City has so much to offer during the summer, you just need to know where to look. Most of the events and places are organized with entire family in mind. Whether you live locally in Oklahoma City or simply passing through, this town has much to offer in the way of recreation and education.

Red Earth Festival

Established in 1978 as a museum to showcase Native American heritage, they now host a festival every June at the Cox Convention Center. See Native American culture come to life with dancing, art, and much more. The Red Earth Festival kicks of with a parade in downtown Oklahoma City on the Friday of the Event.

Ticket pricing varies depending on whether you want to attend just one day or the entire weekend. One day passes costs anywhere from $7.50 to $10.00. Weekend passes cost anywhere from $15.00 to $20.00. Group rates are available for groups over 20 people. Kids under the age of 6 years old are free.

Tinker Inter-tribal Powwow

Oklahoma is known for being Indian Country. It is know wonder that powwow events are scheduled throughout the summer all over Oklahoma. In June you can attend the Annual Tinker Inter-tribal Powwow. It generally occurs the weekend before the Red Earth Festival and is a one-day event.

Oklahoma Indian Nation Powwow

If you don’t mind a 45-minute drive from downtown Oklahoma City, you may want to check out another powwow in Concho, Oklahoma. It has been going strong since August of 1989. The event is held at the Concho Pow-wow Grounds every August.

Shakespeare in the Park

Every summer since 1985, this theatre group puts on a variety of Shakespeare play at a variety of locations. Some of these locations include the Myriad Botanical Gardens, Bicentennial Park, Stage Center, and Tolbert Stage. Check their website for a list of where the performances will take place. Ticket pricing is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and seniors.

Oklahoma City Zoo

The Oklahoma City Zoo is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children and seniors. They have a variety of activities each summer for children as well as a Children’s Zoo. They have three different trains, a carousel, paddle boats, and even a sea lion show.

Rocktown

If you love rock climbing, you will love Rocktown. Rocktown is located at 200 SE 4th Street. It has indoor rock climbing for those just beginning and those that are experts in the sport. They do have a variety admission rates that are separate
