The idea of hell is not a biblical concept. It is a ruse perpetrated by Satan to convince the world that God has a vindictive character and will torment the unrepentant in a burning furnace forever. If there was a doctrine of hell, Would it not have been more clearly defined in the bible? The cornerstone of a belief in hell is tenuous at best.It is rooted in a parable(see Luke 16:19-31.) Jesus is attempting to clarify that if the people would not heed what the prophets were teaching, that their hearts had already become so harden that they would not believe in Him, even if Jesus was raised from the dead. The location and imagery conveyed is to impress upon those who reject Christ, how horrible and sad they are going to feel at the Second Coming.
God is love. "We love Him, because He first loved us," 1 John 4:19. He loves every person that who has ever lived. Even the most ruthless leaders that walked this planet. He has a love for them that we cannot understand. Indeed, when we get to heaven we will be quite surprised who is dining with Jesus. A false concept of hell is used to scare the unbeliever and the believer, that if they get out of line, they will be roasted on a spit forever. When Jesus returns to this earth, sin will not be able to co-exists with God. So, if sinners are burning in hell fire, Are they not still here? God in his mercy will put them to sleep and there will be no more memory of them. They would not have been happy in heaven. Satan does everything in his power to pervert the character of God. And this deception of a hell is one that has down more damage to destroy a persons belief in God then any other lie. Satan wants to be served and Jesus came to serve us.
Why would the ruler of the universe, come to this earth, die on the cross so we could experience everlasting life, and then torment those who reject Him? He died for everyone. He is so merciful, so loving, that this notion of hell is beyond comprehension. Perhaps those who believe in a hell, really don't know Jesus as well as they thought. I would encourage those who hold unto this doctrine to pray and open the word of God. As we draw closer to Jesus, His character is revealed and we begin to see how antithetical is to believe a God of pure love would have a hell.
