With the ability to entrance its viewers, Willy Wonka has become a captivating classic. If you have viewed both adaptations of the film, featuring Johnny Depp in the newer movie and Gene Wilder in the classic, you will quickly see that there is an immense amount of innovation and contrast between the two. Each movie is very unique, and it can be difficult to realize that they are the same movies. Although most viewers would say Gene Wilder's version was much more original, Johnny Depp wields the ability to entertain from beginning to end.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, is an older movie that was an instant success. Not only did it appeal to the younger audience, but literally viewers of any age could enjoy it. It truly is the perfect example of what a family movie should focus on. The newer adaptation, featuring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, is quite different. Willy Wonka is a completely different character, as he appears somewhat insane. It is either a boom or a bust for most viewers.
Gene Wilder did a spectacular job creating a character intrigued with candy. There is almost a level of mystery behind Willy Wonka. He is cooped up in his candy factory. Everything he does is for others, and you wonder what his motives are for what he does in his factory. He hardly sees other human beings, other than his "oompa-loompas." However, there is also a brilliant level of likability and charm in his character, which adds dimension to Willy Wonka.
Johnny Depp portrays Gene Wilder in a surprisingly different light. When you see Willy Wonka in the newer film, he almost appears insane. He focuses on entertainment more than a stellar performance as Willy Wonka. He adds a great amount of humor to the movie, and his character is incredibly appealing. The movie doesn't compare to the previous film in originality, but it is still a very intriguing film.
In all, there is an incredibly amount of originality in Gene Wilder's character, while Johnny Depp focuses on adding a new dimension to the character of Willy Wonka and boasts the ability to entertain its viewers. Although nearly every viewer that has watched both films will say that the newer adaptation simply doesn't compare to the original, but that is because the previous film is a timeless classic. In all, Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp focused on different aspects of creating the character Willy Wonka, and each added a new dimension to the film as a whole.
