Freelance writing online has a variety of challenges. However, these will vary substantially depending on what methods of writing you use. For example, some sites are more tolerate of the odd mistake in grammar or spelling. On Helium.com, for instance, you can write articles fairly quickly and submit them. If you're a decent writer, you won't have any issues. Furthermore, a combination of naturally good writing skills will minimize the need to edit.
Alternatively, there are writing assignments that edit your work rigorously. If you don't satisfy their expectations, your efforts will be rejected or require rewriting. This takes up additional time, and you sometimes may need to sacrifice your personal opinions to get paid. Changes might occur that you disagree with, and you'll have to weigh whether or not it's worth losing out on a payment. You need to be more sensitive to your client when writing for sites. For instance, Helium's marketplace asks you to write on specific topics and you'll either win or lose out on the bid. Demand Studios does the same thing, but it sometimes requires rewrites. After rewrites, it can also reject your article. This means mistakes can be more costly when you are completing "assignments," so to speak.
Most freelance writers find people that want specific things written. They probably have some expertise in the area, but this isn't always true. Regardless, there is no guarantee that they will like their assignments. This can make freelance writing challenge because if you aren't enjoying it, it's difficult to motivate yourself. Similarly, many websites require you to search through large databases of writing requests. By the time you find one you like, it may be taken by someone else. Reading through assignment after assignment is a monotonous process. Helium lets you suggest titles to avoid this problem, and Bukisa allows you to directly submit on any topic.
So if you want to be a freelance writer, you're probably going to encounter some monotony. If you submit articles for small payments and ad revenue, things are easier. Still, maximizing your advertising revenue requires submission to various websites and attention to detail. Articles need to be selected and written in ways that generate views. Of course, you can choose your favorite topics and merely take the profit loss. You can also refrain from marketing, but it's not the best way to be profitable as a freelancer.
Another challenge is obvious. You have to ensure that you
