Flomax is a drug which doctors prescribe to treat an enlarged prostate and possibly other urination problems. The purpose of this drug is to make urination easier. This drug belongs to the family of drugs known as alpha adrenergic blockers.
Before your doctor prescribes Flomax, it is important that your entire medical history is noted. If you are taking some of the medications for high blood pressure such as or drugs from the alpha adrenergic blocker family, you may not be able to take Flomax. If you currently have prostate cancer, any liver or kidney disease, or blood pressure problems, you may not be able to take Flomax safely. That determination will need to be made by your doctor under those conditions. Your doctor also needs to know about all of the medicines you are taking that are not prescriptions. This includes vitamins and supplements. With any prescription drug you need to always consult with your pharmacist before buying any since they may cause adverse effects.
You need to take Flomax just exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow your prescription label and do not alter or change the dosage on your own without your doctor's consent. Never stop taking this medicine abruptly without your doctor's instructions on stopping the medicine. The typical starting dosage is 0.4 milligrams 30 minutes after you eat at the same time daily.
Flomax may cause an allergic type of reaction in some people who take it but this is only in a small number of people. If you have taken this drug and notice hives, have trouble breathing along with tongue swelling, seek emergency treatment quickly.
One of the most common side effects of Flomax is a feeling of vertigo right after beginning drug therapy. If this effect occurs with you, the dosage will need to be adjusted. Other possible side effects of this medication include drowsiness and fatigue. It is important that you use caution when performing any hazardous activity such as driving a car or operating other machinery.
Some men have reported an erection that causes a lot of pain after taking Flomax. You need to speak with your doctor immediately about this problem if this happens with you.
Flomax may cause any number of serious side effects in some people. Back pain, lack of sexual drive, coughing, syncope, sinus problems, insomnia, and feeling weak may also occur. Some people have also reported trouble with their vision and chills while they took Flomax. If any side effect is troublesome to you, then you must report it to your doctor right away.
