Doctor Doctor
'Happy Birthday Hon' his wife pecked him on the cheek and flung her share of the sheets over him as she got out of bed. Dan Martel watched his wife fling off her nightgown in abstract abandon and marvelled at the lightness of her spirit. For a split second, he thought of reaching over and pulling her back into bed but thought better of it. Downstairs, there was a commotion in the kitchen. No doubt, the boys were fighting over who got more maple syrup over their homemade granola. Mo generally managed to pacify them into reason and being his birthday and all, Dan was allowed some privileges which included sleeping in. The pharmacy where he worked had been indefinitely shut down by the government's department of Occupational Safety and Hazards. Thank heavens that Mo still had her administrative position with the Board of Education. He was still creeped out about the fact that she made much more money than he did but today, he was going to put all that out of his mind. Dan drifted off into a soft slumber.
'Doctor Martell, your next patient is on time today' a plump but attractive looking thirty-something woman was handing him a file. Only then, will Grant Major make some progress, hopefully some apologies and finally, be allowed back in contact with hormone-packed teenagers on the baseball diamond
In the office, there is a turn of events. Instead of Dan counselling his patient Grant Major, the doctor is being interrogated as if leaned on by expert information gatherers.
'when's the last time you presented your findings in Vienna?' Grant's steely blue eyes pierced those of Dans'.
'I never had the chance. I was too busy with my schizophrenic mother and alcoholic mother' Dan muttered.
'Oh, could you be more explicit please?' Grant continued.
'well, frankly, I never finished my PhD....it didn't happen' Dan said with a lump in his throat.
'I thought you were a full-fledged psychologist' Grant looked taken aback.
'wait a minute, you're the psychologist, I'm the patient remember?' Dan shouted.
'good good, your emotions are beginning to
