How to get your skin ready for the summer sun

Summer is nearly here, now is the time to start preparing your skin for the sun.  The sun can cause the skin all kinds of problems if we don’t think to prepare, beforehand.  Blisters can appear, alongside, sunspots, itchiness, blotchy patches, dry skin, and the list is endless.  So we have to get our skin ready to be exposed to the summer sun.

Preparation is the key.

1)   Don’t wait until summer arrives before you sit outside.  You can prepare your skin by sitting out in the less warm weather also.

2) Exfoliate your skin once a week; this will get rid of dead skin cells, allowing the regeneration of new good skin, and therefore making way for a nice even tan. Moisturize after exfoliating to help avoid the drying out of your skin.

3)    Moisturize daily, and do not apply foundation to the face every day.  In fact try not to apply it at all.  Use a moisturizer that will protect the skin against UV rays.  Apply moisturizer to your face and body lotion all over your body paying particular attention to the legs, knees arms and elbows.

4)    Protect your skin with a high SPF protection sunscreen lotion to protect the skin from UV (ultra violet) rays.

5)   Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.

6)   A good quality lip balm will help to keep your lips soft and smooth.  The sun will dry the lips and may cause sun blisters so be sure to prepare for the summer sun.

7)   Overexposure to the sun can cause serious illness including dehydration and feverish symptoms so ensure you have medications to treat and drink water whenever possible.

8)   Prepare the skin on your feet for the summer sun.  You don’t want ugly feet inside your pretty sandals but you do want your feet to look soft and flawless.  You need to repair and treat unsightly cracked heels and dry skin.

9)   Wear a wide brimmed hat and UV protective sunglasses, these will also aid against sun damage to the skin.  Brown, bronze or grey tinted glasses are said to give the best protection.

10)  Avoid exposing yourself in the full heat of the sun, which is usually between 12pm and 3pm.

Don’t be put off from relaxing in the summer sun, but do exercise each day, as exercise is wonderful for the skin it helps keeps good circulation. Look after yourself, as your skin deserves looking after.
