Other than Halloween, the 4th of July is another great day to get dressed up! Whether you are conservative or a liberal in political leanings or attire, there is several great Independence Day costumes that fits your patriotic style.
Colonial Presidents
While Obama masks were the craze this past Halloween, during the 4th of July you can opt for a more retro look- including the looks of some former Commanders in Chief! The options can range from John Adams to George Washington. Simple colonial wigs, nickers, and knee length socks will do the trick.
Colonists and Revolutionaries
The Spirit of 1776 runs amuck during the 4th of July. Clever costumes can be made that accent the celebration. You and guests can dress as colonists, minutemen or even farmers. A classic colonist costume can include blousy shirts, nickers, bonnets and/or aprons. It could be easy for you and your pals to dress like Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Betsy Ross or even Benjamin Franklin(with or without kite.)
Uncle Sam and Mrs. Sam
Declare the 4th of July your personal IndependenceDday with simple Uncle Sam or sexy Mrs. Sam outfits. For your Uncle Sam costume, add the classic stars and stripes hat with any combination of red, white and blue clothing. Don't forget the white hair and goatee. As for Mrs. Sam, a short red, white and blue striped skirt with blue vest will work well with the class stars and striped hat. Star spangled pumps and sexy pantyhose will compliment the number.
Lady Liberty
As a compliment to the Uncle Sam costume, this option doesn't have to be for ladies only. You can make your costume sexy or traditional. A great costume Lady Liberty can be purchased or simply made from things around the house. Just remember the basics- drape/toga, torch, crown, sandals, and book.
Other Options
There are also group and couple options for costumes. Couples can dress as colonial pairs or based on themes. They can be Teabaggers, old or new. Be the next Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen, James “The Godfather of Soul” Brown, or John “Cougar” Mellencamp and dress like patriotic rockers and soul brothers.
Kids can be part of the fun as well. Babies can dress as Baby Sam or as Little Liberty. Little jumpers can be accessorized easily with hats, headbands, and torches or flags.
Don’t leave your pets out. There are clever costumes for your patriotic pooches. Some can wear flag drapes or Uncle Sam hats.
Independence Day celebrations are some of the best. They can be even more fun with clever costumes! Whether at a family barbecue or all our party, there are cool, sexy and funny options for your holiday get-up! Happy 4th of July.
