Whenever it got tough on the outside
An always ajar door on the inside
Would invite her further in
Here was Peter Pan, Cinderella, Huckleberry Finn
Unicorns, dragons, fairies and goblins
Whenever it got tough on the outside
There was a world to escape to inside
She would relive legends she had heard
Imagine others through the written word
Writing stories, poems, letting her imagination wander
Whenever it got tough on the outside
She could switch off and retreat inside
“Always daydreaming” her teachers would say
No-one understood she was made this way
A protection mechanism that proved so right
Imagination … an asset for the rest of her life

Poetry: Daydreams

A five-minute break, to catch my breath,
(halfway up a mountain in the Arochar Alps, Scotland):
Ahead of me, I see a blue
Daydreams.
Often in a quiet time I let my mind drift,
To places that I've never gone;
Dreaming dreams of great heroic deeds,

Eyes open wide
Eyes wide open and in my mind
treasures of a heartfelt love I find
The softness of your hands I feel
steady
Whenever it got tough on the outside
An always ajar door on the inside
Would invite her further in
Here was Peter Pan, Cinderella,

Daydreams
Come in a million
To earn millions
But none of them
Open the gates
Of the rich
Mama wakes
Me up
From the veranda
Why don't
