There are large varieties of online content writing sites that allow people to earn a living while working from home. Some sites offer more opportunity than others. Although there are a lot of different online content sites, writing for those that give the most compensation and strive for higher quality are the ones that will be much more lucrative for the writer. It is a challenge to earn a living by writing for online content sites. It is possible though.

How to earn a living by writing for online content sites:

Which Sites?

Choosing the correct sites will give the writer the best opportunity to earn enough money to work from home. The only way to make enough from writing online content to make a living from home is to write to several different sites instead of just one. Choosing at least two online content sites will give you more options when choosing what type of content the writer desires to produce. Most sites have slightly different rules and different material they will pay for. Two recommended sites are Helium.com and Yahoo! Contributor Network (formerly AssociatedContent.com). These two sites offer upfront payments for certain articles as well as residual income from ad revenue.

Be Versatile

Being versatile is essential when earning a living from online content websites. Do not get stuck in a pattern of writing on the same subject all the time. In order to earn the most ad revenue, it is wise to have a variety of topics written to. For instance, writing a creative writing article is fun but it usually will not net a lot of ad revenue because that is not what most web users are looking for. Writing for a sports topic or about the economy will likely earn much more money from ad revenue. Ad revenue is one of the most important factors when considering what articles to write because that is money that can come in for months or even years to come. That is less money that the writer has to worry about earning each month.

Write Well

The content being submitted to online content sites consistently raises the bar on the standards of the articles written to the site. Write well by using proper English (for the sites listed above), proper spelling, punctuation and formatting are extremely important as well. The information used should be up-to-date and as unique as possible for each article written. It is also important to cite sources (each site has guidelines as to what it accepts as citations). Use fact based information where necessary.

Learn the Ropes

Before beginning a work at home career using content websites, learn the ropes. Check the rules and regulations for the sites in which the articles are written for. Go to discussion boards to get help when something is too confusing or difficult to understand. Ask for help because there are plenty of sources to draw from. Learning what is expected of writers on these online content sites will give the writer a better understanding of how to write well and therefore earn more money.

Online content sites can provide people with a decent living if the writer takes it seriously. Many people are making a living from home doing just that. It takes time to build up a portfolio of work in order to make decent money from ad revenue. Writing for sites that also offer upfront payments is the best place to start so that there is more money coming in. After the portfolio builds up, ad revenue increases and less writing is necessary. Anyone who loves to write can make a living writing online content.
