Why is the integrity of football being questioned with such an accusation as to the Super Bowl being rigged? Maybe it's because a mid-market such as Indy finally brought it home. Although I don't remember such questions being asked when St. Louis won, but then maybe St. Louis is a more marketable city than Indy. I'm from Indy, and have been a Colts fan since they relocated here in 1984. I have been through a lot of 3 and 13 seasons and am angered that anyone would raise such a question. Would people have wondered about a rigged Super Bowl had Chicago won? More than likely not! Outside of racing, Indy is just not that appealing to the sports world, and people would rather subject the entire football world to speculation than to just admit that the best team in the NFL took home the Lombardi! And on a second note, rigging a game in football is just not possible. Any one player could not have such an impact in a game (by themselves) that they could determine an outcome. After all, if a quarterback were to throw a bunch of interceptions, he would benched. The same could be said about any player on the field that was not performing up to a professional level. If the coach were to try to throw the game, well, he can not affect how his players perform. Which leaves us with the officiating crew. They could potentially have the most impact upon any one game. The only problem with that theory, is that it would require all of the officials (including the replay booth and the reserves), and that is just too many people expected to keep their mouths shut. So no, the Super Bowl was not rigged. Instead, it was just like the other 40 Super Bowls, a game between the two best teams in the NFL.
