Peregrine Tears
The viscous fluid that covers my eyes
Is no crocodile water
Illusions are for amateurs
What I see is real
The ground pulling up
At the end of the stoop
Is something you don’t miss
The snake squirming under my foot
The clouds swirling above
The desperate crushing weight of truth
Doesn’t weigh me down
It weighs my choices
That they are what they are
Is not the fault of truth
That some choose devastation
Over joy
Is not my choice
But I must live with it
Just the same

The shadows cascade underneath
