Horrific Date
Like every single person who has ever dated, I’ve had some really lousy dates. One however does stand out above the others. The one thing I can say is I was smart enough to take my own car. I met Johnny at my work, he seemed nice enough at first, and we were both worked on construction sites. He worked on insulation and I worked on draft stopping for the same company. One night as we were getting ready to leave work he asked if I would like to go to dinner.
I really didn’t know him all that well, so I offered to drive. I picked him up an hour later, at his home. I should have begged off then, but most people do have a beer or two to unwind after work. I let it pass, I was driving anyway, so I didn’t have to worry about a drunk behind the wheel. He had picked a nice restaurant for us to eat at, and it was one that I had heard was very good. So I decided to go ahead with the date.
As I started the car, to take us to the restaurant, Johnny asked, “if we could stop by a bar he wanted to show me.”
“It’s one of my favorite hang outs and the people there, are so cool, I really want you to meet some of my friends away from work.” He said.
“Okay, and then we’ll go have dinner, right?” I asked.
“Yeah, I promise we’ll go to the restaurant right after we leave.” Johnny said.
We had sat down with a couple of guys, I didn’t know, nor would I want to get to know. After Johnny finished his first beer he ordered the second beer.
“Johnny I’m leaving with or without you, I didn’t come on this date to be your chauffeur, and sat around to watch you dink. If you’re coming, lets go.” I said, as I stood up and put on my jacket.
We were back in the car and headed out of town to the small restaurant he had chosen in the next small town, it was about fifteen miles a way. We went into the restaurant where they had all you could eat catfish, when he excused himself to go the restroom. I picked out a table sat down and waited on my date. The waiter came by for our drink order and asked if we would like the all you could eat buffet.
I said, yes to both, waited a few minutes more on my date. He hadn't come back, he was probably sick. The waiter came back with my drink, so I took a long drink of my Pepsi, and then walked to the buffet table. I was hungry and the catfish was excellent, my date still had not returned. I was polite and asked the waiter to check the restroom.
He came back to let me know my date wasn’t in the men’s room. I looked around; sure enough there was a bar, in the back of the restaurant down the hall from the men’s room.
“Would you please come with me?” I asked, the waiter as I stood up and headed to the bar. I pointed out Johnny to the man, and said.
“Would you please give the bill to the man setting at the bar and let him know his driver, has left for the evening.”
“Yes Miss, I sure will. Is there anything else?”
“No, I’m sure that will be all. Have a good evening.” I said, as I calmly walked out the door started my car, as I was turning onto the highway, I saw Johnny running across the parking lot to catch his ride home. I waved goodbye!
