It doesn't really make a difference which you get anymore. Both have about equal performance and graphics for gaming and, both have equal computing skills. However, in my opinion, simply the portability of the laptop puts it ahead of the desktop PC. Let's face it, no one likes to lug around an enormous box. Also the laptop is featured to be much more affordable than the desktop PC, which by personal experience as an ex-desktop user, I did discover upon purchase. However, when it comes to components (extra USB ports (without overheating), video cards, sound cards, RAM and interchangeable hardware etc.) the desktop is much more versatile. This is mostly due to the extra space within your PC's outer case versus a virtually "flat" laptop, within which, most of the space is already used (by it's own necessary components).
It's pretty much a toss up, you just have to decide which one better suits your needs. One question you could ask yourself is, what am I going to use this computer for? If, for instance, you were looking for a good computer for college, a laptop would be better for its portability. If you're looking to have a strictly at home computer, or have multiple printers or other electronic USB connected devices, the desktop would most likely be better. Say, for instance, you wanted to know which would be better to watch a movie on. Well, that isn't a simple answer either.
Laptops used to be fairly small and basically useless. Nowadays, however, they are capable of pretty much everything that a desktop is. With full color LCD screens up to 17" in size, they come close to the size at which you could watch it on a desktop. In this situation, if you want a bigger screen, the desktop has the laptop beat what with all the newer televisions that support VGA transfer (keep in mind that LCD flat screen televisions run in sizes up to 72" plus). Still in my opinion, size really doesn't matter I own a Dell Inspiron 1546 and the display is absolutely beautiful. Honestly I used to always say, "I'll never own a laptop, it's just a fad." but after being on a budget and getting my new laptop for only $499, I have to say I truly received more than my money's worth on this wonderful machine. Go out and get what best suits you. Portability or versatility? That IS the question...
