Thinking of a Caribbean vacation, but you feel it is not in the budget? Think again. A nice relaxing vacation in the Caribbean doesn't have to break the bank.

The Dominican Republic is becoming a popular travel destination because of its affordability compared to other destinations in the Caribbean. It has been referred to as the "cheap man's Caribbean", but still offers the same amenities as other locations.

One popular destination in the Dominican Republic that is not only affordable, but has a lot to offer is Sosua. This lively beach town in the province of Puerto Plata on the north coast of the country is a great bargain. Sosua is located approximately 4 miles from the Puerto Plata International Airport (POP).

This area has been a top tourist destination for decades for Europeans and Canadians. Actually there is a very large expatriate community in Sosua, which include many German, English, American and Canadian expats. Sosua Bay attracts many water sports enthusiasts, including snorkeling and diving because of its calm waters and a diverse specie of fish and the eye dazzling reef structures. While enjoying the beach you can also visit the the quaint little shops that are located right behind the beach for some souvenir shopping or enjoy a nice cold beverage or a meal at the many bars and restaurants scattered along the half mile beach.

There are a couple of All Inclusive Resorts in Sosua that offer very affordable vacation packages along with a number of independently owned smaller hotels with 2 and 3 star accommodations. There are also opportunities to rent a condo or villa. Some condos are right in town which would not require renting transportation. Most villa rentals are outside the main town area and would require some sort of transportation.

Daytime activities can also include horseback riding, safari jeep rides and trips to other towns nearby such as Cabarete. Cabarete also has a beautiful beach but it is more geared toward kite surfing and wind surfing due to the tradewinds and more active waves. There are also guided tours available to see sights such as the Amber Museum and the Botanical Gardens on Isabela de Torres Mountain.

The nightlife in Sosua is when this beach town really becomes active with various night clubs, bars and casinos. Also one can enjoy the many restaurants throughout the town with various cuisines such as European, Dominican, Italian, French and German.

As you can see, Sosua has a lot to offer for very little money. Why not look into a trip to Sosua for an unforgettable Caribbean vacation.
