How to crochet a toilet seat cover

Created on: May 16, 2010

Why is it so often we can crochet many things for so many different rooms in the house, yet when it comes to the bathroom, we often leave out our crafters touch?  Let’s face it; there just aren’t that many patterns out there that make use of bathroom space.  So, here for you today is a quick and easy pattern for a toilet seat cover, and a couple more free crochet patterns for you to check out.

Toliet seat cover:

Using hook size I, and a worsted weight yarn chain 64.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3, turn.(Counts as a dc from here on out).

Row 2 – 28: Dc in next st, (ch 1, sk next ch, dc in next ch) across, dc in next st, ch 3, turn.

Row 29: Dc in next st, (dc in ch st, dc in next dc st) across, dc in last dc st. Bind off.

Crochet a 50” ch using the ch st. Bind off.

Weave chain in and out of double crochet stitches around the edge of the square you just created.   Please note that chain will be shorter than outer edge of seat cover, this means that seat cover will gather.

Wrap around the toilet seat and pull the chain tight.  Weave in ends of chain into the seat cover so that they do not fall in the water.

And there you have it! A quick and easy toilet seat cover.

Varitaions:

You can do many variations of this pattern if desired.  First off you can try placing the double crochet stitches in the chain stitch of the previous row.  You can also use only double crochets across if you desire a more solid look.  Also try double crochet 2, chain 2, placing the double crochets in the chains of the previous row and the chains in the double crochet of the previous row.  This will create a checkered effect.

Also don’t be afraid to play around with using different colors and other yarns, simply be sure to change the hook size so that the pattern works.

This pattern not what you were looking for?  Well here are a couple more patterns to try out:

A great toilet seat cover can be found at: http://www.freevintagecrochet.com/rugs/star93-toilet -seat-cover. This is a vintage pattern that makes use of the loop stitch and also has a pattern for the toilet top.

Another great pattern can be found at: http://www.freepatterns.com/list.html?cat_id=313. This pattern is made using the Pineapple stitch with thread yarn.  It is perfect for just about any room.

Looking for more patterns?  Try checking out local thrift shops and used book stores.  You can also search the internet for books and patterns online, who knows, you may just be able to come across a few more free patterns!
