Chapter 4
The Glenn Rock police station was really nothing special. It was actually the basement of the old municipal building at the end of town. Over the years the same rooms had been used for both questioning suspects and running board meetings. I sat in a cushion chair, my legs sticking to the plastic while I pulled at some stuffing poking out of a hole in the side. Then I caught myself. I better stop, I was already suspected of one act of property damage. Officer Blanson was sitting at a desk in the corner finishing his police report he had called my parents and they were on their way.
I didn’t know how dad would react. I knew he would believe me, but I also knew he would want answers. Answers I wasn’t sure I could give. Diller and his gang had been in trouble a few times already. It wasn’t going to take much more until they were in serious trouble maybe that was why he was so determined to keep me quiet. My brother Brayton, on the other hand, might have had some problems being the oldest he was expected to be the example, and he had not lived up to that at a whole lot. A year ago he and some of his friends were busted at a party in the Keltner’s barn. Brayton was seventeen, but sometimes showed the judgment of a five-year-old. He was my brother and I loved him, but in terms of a role model well that just wasn’t really an option. He was also caught a year earlier spray painting the sign in front of the high school on a Friday night. What made it all worse was the fact that dad was a police officer, which had really embarrassed my parents. Dad had paid the fines and taken much of the public humiliation for it. But Brayton had done better lately turned over a new leaf I guess you could say. I think there is a good chance that a certain would be senior on the cheerleading squad named Kelly Johnson had taken an interest in him had something to do with this. Anyhow, I was sure dad would believe me.
There was a beep at the door letting the receptionist know someone had entered. Dad walked through the door his green stained grass cutting shoes still on, and mom still had her gardening bandana. Mom came right over to me.
“Are you okay, honey? What happened?” She said as she gave me a hug.
Dad stood beside her,
