Remodeling a bathroom is something that many people need to think long and hard about. Apart from the expense, which can preclude many, there is the inconvenience involved, with some people needing to move out of their home or use a neighbour's bathroom while the remodeling is being done. However, there are a lot of benefits to remodeling your bathroom to consider.
*Better use of space
Many bathrooms are badly designed, with the fixtures put into the most obvious place that, in the long-term, may not be the most beneficial. For example, the toilet should be as far away from the sink as possible; otherwise, every time you flush it, it ejects germs into the air that then land on your toothbrush and other cleaning items. Even better, the toilet could be in a separate room.
*More fashionable fixtures
Like anything, bathroom fixtures date over the years and, what may have been passable when you first moved in could now be an embarrassment. A remodeling can ensure that you choose up-to-date fixtures - although ideally, they should not be too fashionable unless you are planning on remodeling again in a few years. You can choose fixtures that best suit you and your family.
*Should add to house value
Whether you are looking to sell your house in the near future or not, remodeling a bathroom should add to the value of your house, especially if it is done to a high standard. Most buyers are looking for a house that they can move into without having to do major renovation work. If your bathroom is moldy, the fixtures are dated and it needs decorating, you will only attract buyers looking for a renovation project.
*Chance to fix wall issues and decorate
Bathrooms are naturally damp environments and over time, window frames can suffer and mold can eat into walls. However, when a bathroom is being used every day, it is hard to fix these issues. When it is being remodeled, however, this is a great opportunity to deal with any problems, replace windows, re-plaster walls etc, then finish off by decorating.
*Chance to thoroughly clean
Again, because of their very nature bathrooms can become exceptionally dirty and, although it is possible to clean to a certain extent, there is often trapped dirt in areas that are difficult to reach, such as behind the toilet and sink and dirt becomes ingrained in the walls, ceiling and floor. Remodeling provides an opportunity to clean thorough and hopefully replace fixtures with ones that are easier to clean around.
*Environmental benefits
The focus on green living is paramount in today's society, yet an enormous amount of water is used in a bathroom. New fixtures can cut down on the amount of water used and, if the shower is replaced with a powerful one, the chances are that family members will be more inclined to use it than a bath. You could also look at environmentally friendly materials and light fixtures.
When considering remodeling your bathroom, it is necessary to think of both the pros and cons. Nevertheless, there are undoubtedly a number of benefits.
