So, you are looking for a way to get more freedom from your parents. What do you do? Well, it depends on what you are looking to get out of them. Determining what your definition of freedom is would be the first step. When you mention “freedom” to your parents, they are going to assume the worst. You should probably just skip the word “freedom” all together.
Get to the point.
Let your parents know what exactly you want them to let you do. Just telling them you want to do more things can be vague. Parents will be skeptical to just allowing you to do “more”. If you want to go out with friends, tell them who you want to go with and what you will be doing. It also does not hurt to let them know how long you plan on being gone.
Be more responsible.
You will always be a baby to your parents. It is going to be difficult for them to realize you are growing up. If you want to do adult things, show your parents you are capable of doing adult things. Take on more responsibility in your household. Do more chores. Respect your parents. You will be on your way to more freedoms before you know it.
Tell the truth.
Keep the peace in your household by telling the truth. It is hard to trust someone who lies to you all the time, right? Being a responsible adult includes the ability to be trusted. If your parents can trust you, your chances of being treated like a young adult will be much better. Plus, no one wants to be caught up in a lie, right?
Try not to forget that your parents are only trying to protect you and help you live a good life. Do not expect for them to let you do irrational things. Enjoy this time being young because before long you will be out on your own. It is hard to understand now, but there really is a point to all of this discipline. Bottom line is: Show your parents you are mature. Respect them and your household and you will definitely get more responsibility; which can include getting to do more stuff on your own. And do not take these opportunities for granted, because parents are quick to take them away just as fast as they were given.
