How to make homemade aromatherapy bath salts

Your next bath can be even more luxurious with the addition of bath salts.  These salts have been long been known for their therapeutic properties, and with the addition of herbal scents, you can get a 'double whammy' of relaxation and peace.  With only two primary ingredients, you can create your own bath salts and transform your tub time into a spa experience.

Herbal scents have long been used to promote well being and aid in relieving distracting conditions within the body.  Unlike sight, smell is one of the most subtle of the senses, evoking memories of pleasant, delightful experiences.  Some scents have been shown to aid in digestive conditions, calm the nerves and aid in the relief of nausea.  Aromatherapy enhances the pleasure of bath time.

Putting salts and fragrances together is a natural combination.  Making bath salts is just as easy as that: mix a coarse salt (like sea salt or epsom salt) with a fragrant skin-safe oil.  Be mindful of the amount that you place into the salts, as you don't want the mixture to clump up.  Whisk it together until you are satisfied with the results and then package appropriately.  There is a variety of scents available, each of which has different therapeutic uses.

Lavender
This flower is great for use in bath salts because it provides a cooling, calming effect.  It is known to promose peace and tranquility, as well as to promote healing and well being.  Many choose to mix lavender with vanilla, giving a sweet scent that is delicious to the nose.

Peppermint
The scent of peppermint has been used to fight fatigue and muscle aches.  It is an invigorating aroma which drives straight down to the core, spicing up bath time.

Rose
Will those roses smell just as sweet?  The fragrance of rose is known to calm down the most savage of beasts with its honeyed aroma.

Eucalyptus
Perfect for those who have colds.  Eucalyptus is an effective decongestant, and is known to aid in the relief of cold symptoms.  Step out of the bath relaxed and with clearer lungs.

Ginger
The scent of ginger is known to help with nausea.  Another spicy scent, it tames the irritation of the stomach.

These are but a few of the fragrances that can be added to the bath salts that you can make.  Oils can be purchased at many new age bookstores and hobby shops, as well as online.  Epsom salts and sea salts are found in most grocery stores.  Creating scents and making bath salts is quite enjoyable and easy to do.
