A flower in your hair
Change is inevitable, I'm told
As my heart winces every time
I see something quite absurd
A tall tower like structure
In front of the lovely stone mill
We used to traipse around in
Bare foot and fancy free
You, in your summer dress
Straps falling off your tanned shoulders
Wiping beads of sweat off your brow
As we climbed one of the walls
To sit on the highest part of the grassy area
We picnicked innocently and read
Soothing poetry to each other
The mill is now extinct, a modern structure
Stretches over the destroyed landscape
Tears fall from my eyes
Realizing that change is inevitable
Not wanting to believe
I look over at a high grassy point in the landscape
And may never have recognized you
But for the Berbera Daisy in your still curly hair
My heart leaps as strongly as my feet
My soul sings with joy
For simple pleasures that remain the same

LILY
A happy little giggle
A whisper of a voice, not much to say
But a smile that could light a room
One little dimple,
Small and delicate
The pedals of a light pink rose, so small and delicate against her face
Soft and smooth
The silky essence
You were a child of nature, a little girl with golden tresses,
Those smiling eyes, with their infectious laughter,
Who graced
Hawaiian beauty
Hips gently undulating
To the sounds of the music
Grass skirt swaying
Like grass on the prairie
Arms dancing

There’s a flower in your hair.
Just how long had it been there?
Did they do it in your sleep,
Plant a garden,
