Can God and Darwinism coexist?
In all honesty, these two concepts already coexist. While one came before the other, as humans have built upon our knowledge of our world, nothing from theory has actually contradicted the other. The major point of contention is the creation of the universe. Darwinism, or Evolution, claims a cosmic accident is responsible for intelligent life on Earth; Creationism, or God, claims that a higher power created everything. Neither will ever gather enough evidence to gain supremacy as the "Only Correct" option.
This is because, at the base of the matter, one is based on belief, the other on "evidence". No matter how much science advances, there is no way to contradict belief. Let's say that again: No matter how much science advances, there is NO way to contradict belief. Belief comes from faith, not fact. Many believe that the universe was created by God, or in my case, Gods. And while science has conjured up the "Big Bang" theory, it has been unable to provide the catalyst (necessary for all science). That catalyst could very well be a higher power, and in fact, probably is. Since the event happened billions of years ago, and possibly billions of light years from Earth, I doubt that science will ever be able to find that catalyst. And that leaves only one option for anyone to truly believe in.
Darwinism, however, is based on observation of the world around us. Empirical data from the fossil record, and other projects (read experiments), provide the clues that, in my mind, prove Darwinism....or Evolution. In this phase, the only missing link is, well, "The Missing Link". We have not yet found that fossil, or corpse, that proves the jump from lowly primate to Human; that we definitely evolved from the primates found on Earth. Have we just not dug deep enough, yet? Or does the link exist? Only time will tell as anthropologists and archeologists continue to probe the Earth for clues. Even if they find what may be considered that link, will it prove that God doesn't exist?
The answer is simple. No. It can't. The simple truth is that no matter how conclusive, which will always be in doubt, fact can not defeat faith.
The point everyone should realize, however, is that the two concepts are not mutually exclusive. Why can God's plan not involve evolution, specifically, Human Evolution? Is it not possible that the entire universe is constantly undergoing the process of evolution, irrespective of what force began that process? Why must the existence and contribution of God be denied by Darwinism and the survival of the fittest? It makes no sense to say that only one can be the correct answer. And I believe that, as time goes on, science will eventually find evidence that suggests we are not the cosmic accident that "Evolutionists" believe we are.
