In art, the mind, body, and soul work in harmony and where, in most cases, one predominates, all have their input. This article will tackle the problem of trying to see where and how and when each one of these human components, as insoluble as the are, nay dominate in art. It is also well to understand that when they work together as one, the possibility of great art being produced, is far more likely.
Mind created art
The mind is a powerful living machine and was created to be the leader in whatever project is going on in the body. Its purpose is to see that the body is served appropriately and it works by honing in on the thoughts and mannerisms of people. The mind puts out ideas based on previous likes and dislikes and the person in accordance with their current interests and thoughts will decide to act or to veto, embrace or shun, run, hide or confront. It is the dispatcher.
In art, the mind decides to create a work of art. The artist has no other choice but to use what he knows, and if what is known shuts out the soul and shows the body in a bad light, the work of art suffers from lack of understanding of what goes into a fine work of art. The mind may be so taken up with the body and its pleasures, that all else is blocked, and instead of a work of art, a shoddy piece of pornography may be the result.
Body created art
The body, without a powerful mind behind it, will give in to all kinds of displays and pleasures. In itself, the body has built in pleasure centers, messaging centers, and health creating centers, but the body without the input from these superior forces and acting on its own, is a frightening thing. Pleasure bent and non-caring of the outcome, art is not produced. It is more near a robot status than a genuine human being tuned in to all three faculties available.
Soul created art
The soul, or sometimes thought of as the spirit, is by far the more deeper of the three in thought, word and deed. But if denied or locked away and in the unknown territory of the subconscious and never asked for advice and guidance, it never gets its chance. But if given only a small chance to offer suggestions, and to improve, albeit slowly however, hope of a different nature begins to surface.
This is the part of the three way communication system that is the more unknown. It is that part of the life of an individual that assorts out wrongs, metes out punishment for crimes committed and overall, is the judge and the jury over the individual. It cannot produce art on its own, but needs the mind and the body to be working together harmoniously.
Therefore, art that is perceived and undertaken with all three faculties working together, will be a true work of art. And what is that? It will be an art that shows up truths and one that is not afraid of being criticized for staking out new territories. It will speak of things never heard before and will show a new facet, a new side, a new face, to something that has never been.. This kind of art uncover, seeks, invites, and embraces all that is valuable in life. It preserves, restores, and acclaims.
