Tweetups are one of the latest creations of our online society.  Quite simply a tweetup is a meeting of people on Twitter that has either similar interests or sometimes very different ones.  Obviously having a tweetup with twitters with similar interests is a much easier event to plan.  Tweetups can be used as business meetings, charity functions or just a meeting of friends.  Most people on Twitter have never met each other and a tweetup will provide these people with an opportunity to meet.  With some many people using Twitter today, it makes it a wonderful networking tool for both business and friendships. 

 Advance planning will make the difference in having a successful tweetup or one that falls apart before it starts.  Remember though when you are planning to allow for possible situations.  For example if you have decided to have the tweetup outside, make sure that you have an alternative location in case the weather should turn bad unexpectedly.  Another factor in the type of venue you will need depends on if you have decided to have a formal business-like setting or an informal, party like setting.  The formality of the tweetup depends on the reason for having the tweetup.

 Make sure that you visit the venue will ahead of time before the tweetup.  The last thing you want to do is to arrive at the location for the first time and find out that it is completely inappropriate.  When planning the tweetup make sure that you have the best venue you can find.  Then you will have some more decisions to make.  Once you have your venue secured and a back-up location just in case, you need to decide on if you want to have an open bar or any liquor at all.  Open bars are not really a good idea, not only will some people drink too much and possibly cause a scene, but there will be many people that just show up for the free bar.

 Food will be the next big decision.  For a formal tweetup, the decision has to be made whether you are going to provide all the food or have the tweetup at a restaurant.  While having the event catered is one way to handle the food, it is also the most expensive method of handling it.  If you decide that the tweetup with be Dutch treat then make sure that you try some of the food at the venue.  Some restaurants have wonderful décor and terrible food.  Check the pricing on the food to make sure it is in a comfortable price
