As an atheist, I find the title to this article incredibly offensive. The first part of the title is an assumption that a supernatural deity named "GOD" is in fact real, intelligent, and believes in me, a single human being on a plant full of human beings. The second part of the title then guilts the contributors to the atheist section into explaining why they do not believe in this supernatural being called "GOD" on the assumption that said deity is in fact a real being.
As an atheist I do not believe in religion. I do not believe in any type of deity. As such, the concept that a deity beleives in me has no bearing on my life whatsoever. I do not have to believe in something because someone claims that something believes in me. That is an absurd argument.
Skepticism is generally the reason for the majority of atheists. We are all skeptics at heart. Religion, any religion can be inserted here, is based on myth, magic, and belief in an unseen force that controls the fate of humanity. As a skeptic these are not valid arguments for anything. In fact, most religious texts read like a mediocre fictional novel. Most modern religions are made up of the same fictional qualities that make fiction fiction. There is betrayal, lust, carnage, war, climaxes, love, and every other kind of element that goes into fictional stories. Nothing can be proven as facts. It's like believing Lestat the vampire is going to pop up around any corner and suck my blood, it just isn't going to happen.
And while some religious argue that Atheists believe in evolution, this is yet another fact stated that is without proof. While there may be some atheists who are not as skeptical out there who make believe in things such as evolution, there are a large number who don't "believe" in it. It is considered a theory, but a theory that is much more probable than religion.
In fact, many Atheists do not have any "beliefs" whatsoever. To "beleive in" something means to suspend reason and have faith in something that can't be proven as a fact of reality.
So in conclusion, Atheist do not believe in a "GOD" even if religious people think that supernatural deity belives in them. Atheists do not believe in religious because there is nothing provable to our skeptics mind. The same way aliens, conspiracy theories, and politicians do not get our belief either.
