Psalm 150
Psalm 150 is all about praising God. It ends the book on a positive note, by reminding us of God’s power and love. We should praise Him in all that we do and encounter on our life’s journey here on Earth…good or bad.
Music and praise was, and still should be, an essential part of worship (1 Chronicles 16:4-7, Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16, Acts 2:47). Why does God place such high value on praising Him? God wants us to remember who He is and all He can do for us. He is always there and wants us to remember Him during the greatest moments of our lives and through the difficult and worst situations we face, big or small. Job 1:21 states “Naked I come from my mothers womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, may the name of the Lord be praised”. Job praised God even in the darkest of times. Even after all had been taken from him, he still praised God’s name.
Psalm 71:8 tells us to praise Him “all the day long”. Meaning, think of God throughout your day, not just when you say your prayers at night or when you get into a tough situation (also found in Heb. 13:15). Talk to Him throughout your day just as you would your best friend here on Earth. Psalm 74:21 instructs the oppressed/poor and needy to not pull away from Him because of the feelings of failure or shame, but to cling a little tighter and praise/thank Him. Even if it is just a ‘thank you’ for never forgetting about you and His concern for your life. If you look hard enough, there is always something to thank and praise Him for, even in your most difficult and desperate moments.
1 Chronicles 15:16 reminds us that by giving Him praise before all we do, we remember who we are doing it for (also found in Is. 42:10, Mat. 5:16, 1 Pet. 4:11). This will make us put in 100% of our effort because we want to please him. It also reminds us that we are working for God and not man. God also shows us through His Word that we need to put Him first, which starts by thinking of Him and giving praise and thanks to him before each task and before every circumstance we encounter in our every day lives. No matter what we are doing or facing, good or bad, He is there to walk right beside us. He will guide, comfort, heal, carry our burdens, encourage, love, understanding, grant us mercy and grace, blessing (Eph. 1:3-14), forgive, and never forsake us. The list is endless. These are reasons enough to start each day, each task, and before each situation to praise Him. He also gives us hope and the assurance, through salvation via the blood of Christ, that we have a reserved place in His Kingdom. Just looking forward to that calls for a celebration of praise.
Just remember, no matter what life throws at you, He is there walking right beside you and will help you every step of the way on your journey. Start your day with praises to Him and continue praising Him throughout every situation and task you encounter. Doing this will not only bring you (and those around you) blessings beyond imagination, but more importantly it will bring you closer to Him.
