Poetry: My dear mother

by Trecia Webb

Created on: May 08, 2010

My earth shook when I look  into your closing eyes. I never felt you were gone because I lived for you and I am dead if you die.

I heard this shrieking sound coming from my torn heart. I saw my hand shaking as I placed it on your chest to feel your heart beat.

I can no longer feel, numbness starts to cover me. I walked away from your lifeless body because I have to get to school. I cannot make you mad, so I won't be late.

It's ok, I was just testing the imagery to see if I can handle the loss. I am ok, I will go to school now and come home early. Mother will need me to do my chores, make the meal and do my homework.

What a day. Time to go home, I really miss mother. You were lying lifeless when I left so when I get home I will have to give you some chicken soup to get you up and about again.

It's my job to make my mother proud. If only I can find her. Where are you? Ah, I left you lifeless, you must be asleep. I will check the bedroom. Mother needs her rest. she works really hard for us. Not asleep, where could you be? Ah, you must went to the shop. I do need to cook so she went to get the groceries. Ok, I will wait for her to return.

I have to get the meal started. I guess she changed her mind about wanting me to cook. I will go look for her at the store.

I spot a friend with pain in her eyes. '' I am sorry ", she said. I didn't understand but I felt like I knew. I looked around and time stood still. People staring at me with hurt in their eyes. No, I need to find my mother. I need to cook before it gets dark. "Did you see my mother?", I looked at her contemplatingly, expecting an answer. " She's Dead", " she died this morning, you were there".

I laughed at her but thought it was a cruel joke. I turned around to walk away and she grabbed my arm and said " she's dead, let me walk you home". On my way home, I remember the screeching sound, the lifeless body, the pain and the numbness.

Where is my mother?. She knows I need her.

There she is, beautiful with no expression. I have never seen my mother looked this beautiful. I touched her face. No response. Cold. They took me away and place her lifeless body in the ground. I finally found you and now I have lost you. My dear mother.

You are dead but I will keep on living to keep you alive. You're apart of me, so you are alive. I will not say goodbye.
