Poetry: Remembering love

by Ruth Cheeseman

Created on: May 07, 2010

Let Me Love

Let me take life by the wings of eagles

And soar to heights surpassing great mountains

Let me achieve the greatest of feats

And surmount the insurmountable.

Let me stand at unyielding passageways

Of darkness and prejudice

To see them melt away before my eyes

Into heaps of sweet surrender.

Let me heal the strongest of injustices

And tame the heart of the fiercest foe

Let me see pain and sorrow

And use the balm of the spirit upon it.

And where shall I search for this strength?

To what hero shall I turn for this prize?

A world leader, perhaps, with power and prestige?

NO.  Love can be found in the humblest of lives.

And this love that I speak of in awe

Can bring power that no weapon can

It reaches the heart, brings barriers down

And touches the innermost core of a man.
