Your first step to becoming an EMT in Arizona is receiving your EMT-Basic certification. Becoming an EMT basic and Arizona is a process.  Your first step to becoming an EMT Basic is completing an EMT-Basic course. Under Federal US DOT requirements, EMT Basic must complete 100 hours of classroom instruction. Once you have successfully completed an EMT Basic course then you will be qualified to take the National Registry written and practical exams for EMT Basic. Upon completion of both National Registry exams and then you will be able to apply for your Arizona EMT Basic license.

Before applying for an EMT-Basic course, you should be aware of some course prerequisites. While these prerequisites may vary slightly from school to school, they provide you an idea of necessary preparations.  Due to legal requirements, EMT-Basic students are required to be 18 years old. You will be required to show proof of current CPR certification such as American Heart Association's Healthcare provider certification or American Red Cross's CPR for Professional Rescuer. EMT-Basic students should be able to lift at least 125 pounds alone or 250 pounds with a partner. Your school may also provide a list of necessary immunizations such as hepatitis B, MMR, and Tetanus. There are many Arizona schools offering EMT-Basic courses.

Pima Community College offers EMT-Basic courses. Pima community college is located in Tucson. PIMA Community College's EMT Basic certification provides the training necessary to complete your EMT-Basic National Registry Exams and obtain your state license. This course also provides students with 9 hours of college credit. In this course, students will learn how to assess patients and provide basic medical care. From Pima's website you can access information on EMT enrollment requirements, immunization requirements, and download their EMT program information packet.

Mesa Community College offers a certificate of completion and basic emergency medical technology. This certificate program is a 16 week course. Students receive instruction in assisting patients, working with paramedics, and an introduction to Emergency Medical Services. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be eligible to take in the EMT Basic National Registry exams.
