My Helium experience since 2007 has confirmed my passion for writing and editing, my willingness to explore and write about new issues and that earning money is secondary to the art itself.
After taking a year off from Helium, I returned early in 2010 to see if anything was new and if the 170 articles I authored to that point were still there. So one night I entered the site, changed my password, because I forgot the first one, and sat with a cup of java reading my material. Boy, the night went fast. I laughed, cried and thought a lot.
It was like mothers and fathers being reunited with their sons and daughters who returned from the service. It was good to be back amidst the comfort of a soothing environment. Writing and editing the written word has always been a joy and privilege for me.
So before daybreak, I authored my fist article in over 12 months. It was awesome. I felt great. I rated a few articles before I called it a night and went to bed with a smile.
I learned that it's difficult to stay apart from something which means a lot to you. I learned that my inquisitive mind is still sharp and forever searching for new topics to talk about. I learned that I'm still intrigued by the thrill of competition and that it's exciting to see how your peers rated your material.
I try to access the Helium site at least three times a week. I bought notebooks for my son and daughter. As for me, I have to work on a desktop which was provided me by one of my clients. It is so old fashioned that it limits my access to Helium. So I'm forced to ask my son or daughter if I can borrow their notebook for a few hours
Oh, I'll buy my own notebook soon because I'll be able to access Helium seven days a week. There are some things I never get tired of, like Chinese food, reading a good book, American Idol, World Wrestling Entertainment, the storylines are great, and Helium.
I'm thrilled that Helium came into my life, as I'm sure others are. Whether I'm outside sunning myself, driving along a hilly country road, watching a little league baseball game, tuning in CNN or reading the local newspaper, there's always something to discuss and share.
