Going on a job interview can be a stressful event for many individuals. With the job marketplace so competitive, chances are there are several other applicants. This being the case, an individual wants to make a great impression in order to stand out amongst others vying for the same position.
How well an interview goes can make or break a hire and achieving that positive impression goes a long way.
Heightened anxiety before meeting for an interview is very common and a feeling many experience, however this can impact the quality of the interview and the impression given. It is important to calm your nerves before going on the job interview in order to avoid these issues.
The feelings of nervousness before a job interview is natural; many people feel jitters and full of anxiety prior to the big day. This is normal, a problem only arises when these anxieties spiral out of control and overwhelm a person to the point the interview is negatively affected.
Participating in a job interview ladled with anxiety could work against you. The good news is there are a few techniques you can try to calm your nerves before a job interview.
Here are a few tips:
• Get a Good Night's Sleep
This may be a bit difficult if you're restless with anticipation over the interview, but realistically a well rested body is able to have a clearer mind and give better answers.
A sleep deprived individual may forget important facts, stumble over words, appear distracted and/or look tired. On the other hand a well rested interviewee has a stronger ability to flow more confidence, focus, answer questions on the fly, and in general come across as a dynamic applicant. The latter is the way to leave a more memorable impression on a potential employer, and getting adequate rest prior to an interview can help make this happen.
• Practice Questions and Answers
If possible, ask someone fill the role of interviewer to give you practice and go over all of the possible questions which may arise during the interview. Another thought is to dress up in professional business wear and simulate the interview as closely as possible. Practicing what to expect and doing a run through of the questions and answers gives the interviewee a good way to become comfortable with the interview process.
• Do Research on the Company
These days businesses and agencies pretty much expect their applicants to know something about the organization they are applying to, and much of this information can be found
