It is very easy to spend money. Buying a new television, new clothes, DVDs and CDs, not to mention new video and computer games, is very easy to do. Every day you are bombarded by advertisements telling you about all of the sales and new "fun stuff" that you can buy. Understandably, you want to go out to buy all of those fun toys. However, as much joy as these things may give you in the short term, you will be seriously hurting yourself in the financial long term.
Every time you spend your money on some trinket, you are passing up an opportunity to save or otherwise invest your money. When you save money, you earn interest and have more options for your future financial plans. If you want extra money for retirement, if you need extra money in the case of an emergency, or if you need extra money for a specific goal (such as holiday gifts or a vacation), saving money can help you accomplish all of these things. Additionally, if you save money now and build a nest egg for the future, you will have many more financial options available to you.
However, as mentioned above, due to all of the temptation and allure of buying the latest and greatest, if may be difficult for you to decide to save money. If you find yourself in such a situation, remember to use your willpower to help you through. Your willpower or resolve will be the characteristics that help get you through the tough temptations and help you make the smart financial decision to save or otherwise invest your money. By fighting off the temptation of buying something immediately, you can start to develop a habit of saving money. This habit will be very good for your financial well being.
If the temptation of buying something is especially strong, you should remember that saving money today will help you be able to buy much more at a later date. The reason for this is because your money grows when you save it. Compound interest in a magically thing, and if you save early and often, your small savings can balloon into a substantial amount over time. As such, you will be able to afford more and better luxuries than you would if you quickly used your money to obtain instant gratification.
Due to all of the benefits that can be achieved by saving money, use all your willpower to avoid splurging on items now so that you can have a better, richer future.
